This assessment is important to identify Lyme disease by using Western Blot lab test. The test identifies  Borrelia burgdorferi that

causes Lyme

disease. Western blot is usually performed as a follow-up to an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA) test.  The combination tests (ELISA tests and Western blots) are used for many infectious agents; for example,  HIV.
